Happily Ever After: Sunita & Subhash's Traditional Indian Wedding in Portland
Full of tradition, color and beauty, Sunita & Subhash's traditional Indian wedding took place at the Embassy Suites in Portland over several days. People flew from all over the world to participate in the events, and I was honored to witness and document this in the United States. The parents of the couple and their wedding planner, Chandrika Nimmagadda, made sure everything was as traditional as possible. I felt transported to India, and utterly delighted by each moment that passed.
The wedding ceremony happened in the early morning on Saturday and lasted until the afternoon. My lovely assistant, Udaya, translated parts of the ceremony for me--the nuances of each piece of the day were fascinating. Much of it was in Sanskrit, with the priest chanting and singing and reading. We photographed most of the main ceremony in bare feet, as you don't wear shoes while on the mandap platform. After all the traditional ceremonies, the evening reception was bursting with color and fantastic Indian music for dancing.
Sunita looked so beautiful in each of her many outfits as the days passed. I love that the bride wears so many colors and different looks during all the events. Subhash similarly changed from formal suit to wedding garb to a handsome outfit in the evening.
Enjoy!
